The Good Doctor is an American medical drama television series based on the 2013 South Korean series of the same name. The series stars Freddie Highmore as Shaun Murphy, a young, autistic surgical resident at the fictional San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital. The story revolves around Shaun, an autistic doctor who faces many challenges in becoming a surgeon.

On Tuesday, February 20, the seventh and final season of The Good Doctor premiered. Ten episodes are scheduled for the final season. After six complete seasons, Hill Harper, who portrayed Dr. Marcus Andrews, left The Good Doctor.

Dr. Andrews’ absence from the seventh and final season of the show was explained in the first few minutes of the season 7 premiere. Since the show’s 2017 premiere, Harper, who plays Dr. Marcus Andrews, has been a key cast member. Following Dr Andrews’ resignation as president, Harper’s departure was hinted at in the Season 6 finale of the show.

Harper intended to run for the Michigan U.S. Senate seat last year. When making his announcement, Harper stated, “I think that our government should work for the people, be a force for good, and protect our freedoms, and that will not happen if we keep electing the same type of people to office.”

Dr. Andrews’ whereabouts were mentioned in a moment between Christina Chang’s Dr. Audrey Lim and Elfina Luk’s Nurse Dalisay Villanueva in a scene from the first episode of the final season. “Greetings from Spain, Marcus,” Villanueva says to Dr. Lim. Dr. Lim says, “Oh, I thought he was at a meditation retreat in Vietnam.” Villanueva answered, “He was, and he is walking the Camino de Santiago.”
