Mr and Mrs Mahi, the romantic drama starring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor, has been experiencing a steady decline in its box office earnings in India. On its fifth day, the film earned just over ₹2 crore, bringing its total collection to ₹21.10 crore, according to Sacnilk.com. The film had an overall 10.60% Hindi occupancy on Tuesday, indicating a waning interest among audiences.
Initial Box Office Performance
The film, backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, started off with a moderate collection of ₹6.75 crore on its first day. However, the numbers dropped to ₹4.6 crore on day two and slightly recovered to ₹5.5 crore on day three. By day four, the earnings dipped further to ₹2.15 crore, and day five saw a marginal drop to ₹2.10 crore.
Directed by Sharan Sharma, Mr and Mrs Mahi features Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. The storyline revolves around Mahima, a doctor turned cricketer, portrayed by Janhvi Kapoor, and her husband Mahendra, played by Rajkummar Rao, who discovers her talent and supports her dream of becoming a cricketer by becoming her coach. The film also stars Rajesh Sharma, Kumud Mishra, and Zarina Wahab in pivotal roles. This film marks the second collaboration between Janhvi Kapoor and Sharan Sharma, following their work on the biographical drama Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.
Audience and Critic Reception
Despite the star power and the backing of a major production house, Mr and Mrs Mahi has struggled to captivate the audience. The film’s underwhelming box office performance raises questions about its appeal and marketing strategy. Although it had a promising start, the steady decline in earnings suggests that the film has not resonated well with viewers.
In a recent interview with PTI, Janhvi Kapoor addressed concerns about box office performance, expressing a philosophical view on the fate of films. She stated, “Eventually, what’s meant to happen with a film always happens and it might not be what you expect but it will be what a film deserves. Every film has a destiny.” Janhvi also shared her personal experiences, noting that sometimes films do not meet expectations, but they always find their audience eventually.
