Euphoria Season 3 Is Officially Happening

“Euphoria” Season 3 has encountered several roadblocks, leading to a significant delay in its release. The untimely deaths of actor Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen, coupled with the Writer’s Strike, have severely impacted the show’s production timeline in unforeseen ways. Despite these setbacks, creator Sam Levinson is finally back to work on the series, and here are all the exciting details we know so far.

Renewed but Delayed

After the second season concluded, “Euphoria” was renewed for a third season in 2022. However, production has faced multiple delays due to several factors. The tragic death of Angus Cloud, who portrayed the character Fezco, and the ongoing Hollywood strikes have pushed back the filming schedule. As of now, the makers have yet to begin filming for the third season. While specific details about the upcoming season remain under wraps, it has been confirmed that “Euphoria” Season 3 will feature a time jump, leaving fans with numerous questions.

HBO Addresses Season 3 Delays

HBO chairman and CEO Casey Bloys recently provided updates regarding the status of Season 3 of the Sam Levinson series. He confirmed that the core cast would return and addressed the ongoing discussions about the show’s future direction.

Euphoria Season 3 Will Feature a Time Jump

In an interview with Variety, Casey Bloys revealed that Sam Levinson is actively working on the series. Bloys mentioned that there would be significant “back and forth” regarding the setting of the new season. “One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn’t want to have it in high school anymore. That’s where it was set, and what made sense then. So, when you take it out of that, there’s a lot of back and forth about where to set it, how far in the future to set it, and all that stuff. But I think he’s got a take that he’s excited about, and he’s busy writing,” Bloys explained.

Returning and Departing Cast Members

Bloys also confirmed that the original cast, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer, would return to reprise their roles. However, Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, has already announced her departure from the show. Additionally, the unexpected passing of Angus Cloud ensures another notable exit. With these changes, it is now confirmed that Rue and her friends will be returning, but not to their previous setting of East Highland High School.

Setting and Themes of Previous Seasons

In the first two seasons, “Euphoria” was set in a high school. Focusing on the life of a spiraling teen addict, Rue, and her classmates. The show delved into various social issues, including domestic violence, drug abuse, and human trafficking. All set against the backdrop of love triangles and teen angst. These themes played a significant role in shaping the narrative and engaging the audience.

Second Season’s Conclusion

The second season of “Euphoria” concluded in February 2022, with a powerful and emotional finale. Zendaya‘s character, Rue, hit rock bottom after experiencing a severe relapse. This ending left fans eager to see what direction her journey would take in the upcoming season.
