Karan Johar’s Apology for Son’s Weight Comment

Filmmaker Karan Johar shares a deeply special bond with his children, Yash and Roohi, whom he welcomed via surrogacy in 2017. Known for his fun and engaging parenting style, KJo often makes time for his little munchkins despite his busy schedule. From creating delightful videos to organizing themed parties, such as the Willy Wonka-themed celebration for the twins’ 7th birthday in February, he ensures that his kids have joyful experiences.

Recently, Karan Johar opened up about an incident that made him reflect on his parenting approach. During an interview with Faye D’Souza, the director revealed that he accidentally fat-shamed his son, Yash, while on a family holiday. He confessed, “I said, ‘Yash, you’ve put on weight.’ It came out, and I’m deeply, deeply apologetic to my child.”

Karan Johar’s Apology and Reflections on Parenting

The incident left Karan Johar feeling remorseful. He immediately apologized to his son, saying, “I went into my room and said, ‘Why did you do this!’ Then I went outside, hugged him [Yash], and said, ‘I’m really sorry, please eat what you want.’” This heartfelt apology highlights KJo’s commitment to his children’s well-being and his awareness of the impact of his words.

Karan Johar expressed his concerns about his son’s eating habits and weight, which he attributes to genetic factors. “It breaks my heart, but when I see my son consuming sugar and I see he’s put on weight, I am so paranoid for him,” he admitted. Johar acknowledges his own struggles with weight and fears that Yash might face similar challenges. “I can see the genetic… I can’t call it a flaw, I get it from my mom, and I know he’s getting it from me.”

Karan’s reflections extend to his parenting style, as he strives to strike a balance between guiding his children and allowing them to make their own choices. “I tell him to go play sports, go play football, go play cricket, do all the things that I didn’t do,” he shared. Despite his concerns, Johar emphasizes his desire for his children to lead happy, joyful lives, free from unnecessary pressure.

Karan Johar’s candid admission and subsequent apology for his comment on his son’s weight reveal the filmmaker’s dedication to being a thoughtful and caring parent. Balancing his own anxieties with the need to support his children’s individuality, KJo continues to navigate the complexities of parenting with love and sincerity.
