Arjun Rampal on Love, Divorce, and Why Marriage is Just a Piece of Paper. Actor Arjun Rampal recently opened up about his divorce from Mehr Jesia and his relationship with Gabriella Demetriades. After nearly two decades of marriage, Arjun and Mehr decided to part ways. Reflecting on this phase of his life, Arjun shared insights into why he and Gabriella, despite being together for many years, do not feel the need to get married.
Early Marriage and Its Challenges
Speaking on The Ranveer Show, Arjun revealed that he got married to Mehr at the age of 24, which he now considers too young. “I got married when I was 24, and I think it is too early; you’re too young, and there’s a lot to learn and experience. You have to become mature. Guys mature far slower than women do. It’s a proven fact that we are idiots. If you want to be successful in it (marriage), wait it out,” Arjun said. He acknowledged that while some men marry their childhood sweethearts and have successful relationships, he views these as “miracles.”
The Difficulties of Divorce
Arjun candidly discussed the difficulties he faced during his divorce from Mehr, with whom he shares two daughters, Mahikaa and Myra. “It’s very difficult; it is not easy on anyone, and it’s the most difficult on children,” he said. Initially, the freedom might feel liberating, but it eventually leads to feelings of unease and loneliness. “You start to miss home,” he admitted.
Having come from a broken home himself, Arjun found it particularly challenging to accept the failure of his marriage. “For me to not have succeeded in marriage was something which I really had to look back upon and see how did this go wrong and how did I not see… then I realised why it went wrong and what were the things, and I take responsibility for it,” he shared.
A New Chapter with Gabriella
Arjun Rampal on Love: Despite the challenges, Arjun Rampal has found happiness with Gabriella Demetriades. The couple, who have been together since 2018, share two sons. Arjun emphasized that their relationship is strong and loving, even without the formalities of marriage. “We will always have each other’s back. You don’t have to live under the same roof or be bound or separated by a piece of paper,” he said.
Arjun believes that God gave him a “second chance in love” with Gabriella. Although they haven’t shared wedding vows, he feels they are already married in their minds. “It’s not me, it’s not her, but marriage is just a piece of paper. We are already married, and there is no doubt about that in my mind. But sometimes what that piece of paper can do is change you. You’re just legally bound in a way, but it could change your attitude towards each other,” he explained.
