Kashyap shared the exciting news on his Instagram, writing, “In three days the Gang will be back… GOW back in cinemas.” This announcement has been met with enthusiasm from fans who are eager to revisit the intense and immersive world of Wasseypur.

Initial Release and Reception: Upon its initial release, Gangs of Wasseypur received widespread critical acclaim and was a commercial success. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Sneha Khanwalkar and Piyush Mishra. With lyrics by Mishra and Varun Grover, also contributed to its popularity. The film’s first part was released on June 22, 2012, followed by the second part on August 8, 2012.

A Star-Studded Ensemble

The film features an impressive cast, including Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Jaideep Ahlawat. It tells the intergenerational story of a family deeply entangled in crime, extortion, and murder. Co-written by Kashyap and Zeishan Quadri, the narrative spans three generations, offering a deep dive into the dark underbelly of the coal mafia.

Lyricist Varun Grover recently highlighted this issue on his social media. Expressing hope that the re-release will give audiences a chance to experience the film on the big screen as it was intended. The re-release, scheduled from August 30 to September 5, 2024. It will be available for viewing at Miraj Cinemas, with tickets already on sale on their official website.

Gangs of Wasseypur also holds the distinction of being screened in its entirety at the 2012 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, making it one of the few Hindi-language films to achieve this honor.
