Diljit Dosanjh starrer Punjab’95 in trouble as CBFC demands 120 cuts and title change

Diljit Dosanjh dream project Punjab’95 has been in development for quite some time. It reported that Central Board Of Film Chamber -CBFC has again demanded 120 cuts and title change.

The film, directed by Honey Trehan and based on the biography of Sikh activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, has faced yet another obstacle in terms of obtaining Censor Board permission.

According to a source in Mid-day, Diljit Dosanjh’s Punjab’95 has been advised 120 cuts. The report follows a report from July that proposed 85 cuts.

It is reported that CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi watched the film with other members of the reviewing committee before approving the final alterations.

As per the source, the requested cuts have risen from 85 to over 120. One of the significant adjustments ordered is the complete replacement of Khalra’s character name.

It has also been ordered that the picture not be labeled Punjab’95, which references to Khalra’s dying year. Khalra went missing in September 1995, and six Punjab police officers were imprisoned ten years later for his murder.

According to the CBFC’s recommendation, the film will now be called Sutlej, after the river that connects Punjab. There are about 120 alterations, according to a source.

It has also been disclosed that the director Honey Trehan and producer Ronnie Screwvala battled with the CBFC regarding the name change of of Khalra in the movie.

CBFC stated that they will not permit any changes to the movie that emphasize Khalra’s role in investigating the disappearance and killing of Sikh youths during the Punjab insurgency from 1984 to 1994.
