Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan’s romantic action drama film, The Legend of Maula Jatt’s much anticipated Indian premier has been cancelled following backlash from some political parties.

The Pakistani Punjabi-language action drama film directed by Bilal Lashari and written by Nasir Adeeb is an adaptation and a soft reboot of the 1979 Lollywood film Maula Jatt.

The action drama marks Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan’s reunion after Humsafar drama and was slated to make its way into theatres in the Punjab region on October 2nd, this year.

 The film stars Fawad Khan as the titular character with Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malik, Faris Shafi , Mahira Khan, Gohar Rasheed ,Faris Shafi as Mooda,Shafqat Cheema ,Saima Baloch ,Nayyer Ejaz ,Ali Azmat ,Babar Ali ,Resham ,Zia Khan as Ali ,Kamran Lashari , and Raheela Agha.

In the film, a local folk hero named Maula Jatt takes on his arch nemesis and the leader of a brutal clan, Noori Natt.

A media source alleged that the decision to stall the release was taken because no Indian films have been permitted in Pakistan since 2019.

Film’s plot

The plot revolves around the legendary rivalry between Noori Natt (Hamza Ali Abbasi), the brutal gang leader, and local hero Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan).

The action drama was release don October 12, 2022 to positive reviews from critics for its direction, performances, action sequences, and visual effects.

 Fawad Khan’s action entertainer was made with an estimated budget of PKR 45 crores  and grossed $13.8 million worldwide, breaking numerous box-office records, and became the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time, as well as the highest-grossing Punjabi-language film of all time.

MNS Cinema Wing’s president , Khopkar told ANI that the film will not be released. He said we shall not show any Pakistani films or performers in India, including this one. He then claimed that if the film is released, there will be widespread rioting and that any Pakistani actor who dares to visit India would be brutally attacked.
