Dadasaheb Phalke Award : veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty to be honored with India’s highest honor cinema award for his contribution to the Hindi Cinema.

India’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Railways and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw released an official statement today.

Mithun Chakraborty is an Indian actor, producer and politician who predominantly works in Hindi and Bengali cinema. He is a former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament.

He is the recipient of three National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards. In January 2024, Chakraborty was awarded Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour, by the Government of India.

He was also awarded India’s highest accolade in the field of cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2022. The announcement came from the by Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on 30 September 2024.

He is the record holder in the Limca Book of Records for 19 movie releases as lead actor in the year 1989, and the record is still unbroken in Bollywood

Award details

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India’s highest award in the field of cinema and is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The recipient is honoured for their “great and outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema” and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000 (US$12,000).

Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with this award for the year 2022 on October 8, 2024 during 70th National Film Awards.
