Mother Alia saves Mother Nature – Here’s how

Alia Bhatt initiates upcycling

After the overflowing love that Alia Bhatt received on her saree looks from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the ‘Rani look’ has earned a separate fanbase. Keeping that in mind, Alia Bhatt, along with the world-famous fashion designer Manish Malhotra has come forward to upcycle every saree Alia has worn during the promotional events.

Here’s what the Instagram post says:

To summarize it, Alia Bhatt has decided to put on sale, the sarees she wore for RARKPK promotions, with the intention to avoid throwing them away and adding to the rapidly increasing waste on the planet. If her clothes are reused by someone else, they’ll be in use for longer than just one event, thereby doing justice to the durability and expiration of the product.

Those who wish to buy the sarees can go to Manish Malhotra’s official website – manishamalhotra.in and pick their favourites. To make it even better, every penny that will be earned from the sale will go directly for vulnerable women and children’s healthcare under the organization SNEHA.

This isn’t the first time Alia Bhatt is seen promoting saving the environment, especially in terms of clothes, since she’s a celebrity and wears a new outfit every single time. Some time ago, a clip from her interview went viral where the question was, “Does Alia Bhatt repeat her clothes?” and without a second thought, she proudly admitted that she does repeat them several times. She also added a few lines about increasing the shelf life of clothes and using them as much as possible before it’s time to discard.

Upcycling, for the unversed, is the way to save the environment. With increasing manufacturing and sources of waste flooding in the world, the landfills are flooding too. For making a single outfit, it goes through a process that requires efforts. If it’s worn just once and thrown away, it’s not justified. There’s many other ways through which upcycling can be done. Plastic, for example, is picked up from public places or beach cleanups and made into garbage cans. Plastic wrappers are made into threat then weaved into bags or other useful items. This way, if everyone makes it their mission to reuse or upcycle the waste in their house and increase their lifespan, the planet can be saved from unnecessary, undeserving hazardous consequences.
