Kalki 2898 AD Box Office Wrap-Up: Prabhas’ Epic Ranks Fifth in India

Kalki 2898 AD Box Office Wrap-Up: Prabhas’ Epic Ranks Fifth in India. Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, has concluded its theatrical journey, making a significant mark in Indian cinema. This sci-fi epic, directed by Nag Ashwin, has captivated audiences with its grand visuals and compelling narrative, securing its place as the fifth highest-grossing film in Indian box office history and the seventh highest-grossing Indian film worldwide.

A Spectacular Opening

The film’s journey began with a bang, grossing over Rs. 100 crore on its opening day in the last weekend of June. This impressive start set the stage for a successful run throughout July and into the first half of August. Kalki 2898 AD maintained strong performance across various regions, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where Prabhas’ films have traditionally faced challenges.

Regional Success: The film’s best performances were seen in the Nizam region, Karnataka, and the Hindi belt. In Nizam, it became the second-highest grosser ever, only behind the blockbuster RRR. By the eighth week, the film’s collections in India had dropped to less than Rs. 25 lakhs, signaling the end of its theatrical run. The film made its digital debut on Thursday, a common practice for South Indian films, which typically marks the conclusion of their time in theaters. By the end of its run, Kalki 2898 AD had amassed approximately Rs. 737 crore at the Indian box office.

International Impact

Internationally, Kalki 2898 AD also made a significant impact. The film grossed USD 29.10 million (approximately Rs. 243 crore) overseas, bringing its worldwide total to an impressive Rs. 980 crore. This achievement places it as the second highest-grossing film for the Telugu film industry in international markets, excluding Japan. In the United States, it became the second highest-grossing Indian film, just behind Baahubali 2. Canada also proved to be a strong market, with Kalki 2898 AD becoming the highest-grossing Tollywood film there.

The film’s success is a testament to the growing global appeal of Indian cinema, particularly Telugu films. Prabhas, already a household name due to his role in the Baahubali series, has further solidified his status as a pan-Indian star with this film. The combination of a strong storyline, stellar performances, and high production values has resonated with audiences both domestically and internationally.
