Box Office – The South Indian film industry has had a remarkable year, with a slew of successful releases captivating audiences. From the anticipated HanuMan to the latest blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, South Indian cinema has been on a roll.

August 2024 was particularly notable, with several films outshining major Hindi releases such as Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa. The month saw over 70 releases across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages, with around 10 to 12 films making a significant impact despite stiff competition from Bollywood.

Thangalaan Dominates the Box Office

Among the many releases in August, Chiyaan Vikram’s Thangalaan emerged as the top performer. The film not only led the South Indian box office but also surpassed several Hindi releases in terms of revenue. Thangalaan has demonstrated the growing influence of South Indian cinema, amassing a remarkable ₹70.28 crore worldwide. This achievement underscores the film’s compelling narrative and Vikram’s star power. The month’s box office results reflect a strong showing by South Indian films, with Thangalaan standing out as a major success.

Highlights from Kollywood and Mollywood
