Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s latest film, Stree 2, has set a new record by becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024. Within just five days of its release, the film has amassed an impressive Rs 228 crore at the box office.
This achievement places Stree 2 ahead of other major releases this year, such as Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter and Prabhas-Amitabh Bachchan’s Kalki 2898 AD. Not only has the film secured the record for the highest opening weekend of the year, but it has also surpassed the lifetime earnings of Fighter, which had previously held a strong position in the box office.
Stree 2 Box Office Collections
Stree 2 continued its box office dominance by collecting Rs 37 crore on Monday, raising its total to Rs 228.45 crore. This substantial figure has allowed the film to eclipse the lifetime earnings of Fighter. Which had garnered Rs 115.30 crore over its opening weekend and ended with a total of Rs 199.45 crore. In addition, Stree 2 has also outperformed Kalki 2898 AD in Hindi, which had earned Rs 112.15 crore during its opening weekend and concluded with a Hindi-only lifetime collection of Rs 294.25 crore. The film’s performance underscores its remarkable success and broad appeal.
Capitalizing on Holidays
The timing of Stree 2‘s release played a crucial role in its success. Coinciding with two major holidays—Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan. On Independence Day, the film achieved a spectacular collection of Rs 51.8 crore. The success was further bolstered by the extended weekend due to Raksha Bandhan. Which saw an additional Rs 37 crore in earnings. This strategic release period allowed Stree 2 to maximize its box office potential. High cinema occupancy rates were observed in key regions including Delhi-NCR, Lucknow, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur, reflecting the film’s widespread popularity and strong regional impact.
Star Power and Cameos
The sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, which had earned Rs 129.90 crore over its lifetime. Stree 2 brings back the beloved original cast including Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana. The film has been further enhanced by several high-profile cameos. Varun Dhawan makes a special appearance in his Bhediya avatar, while Akshay Kumar adds intrigue as a potential new villain.
