Thangalaan Advance Booking and Box Office Prediction

Chiyaan Vikram’s highly anticipated period action drama, Thangalaan, directed by Pa. Ranjith, is set for a grand worldwide release on August 15. This much-awaited film will debut simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, generating sky-high expectations among fans and critics alike.

The theatrical trailer has already set the stage for a thrilling cinematic experience, showcasing Vikram’s distinctive look and the film’s intriguing setting. As part of an extensive promotional campaign, Vikram, Ranjith, and actress Malavika Mohanan have been actively promoting Thangalaan in Tamil Nadu and Telugu-speaking states. The advance bookings, which began on August 10, have been remarkable, particularly in Kerala where the film’s pre-sales have been strong.

Thangalaan Advance Bookings

As of August 13 at noon, Thangalaan has made an impressive start in Tamil Nadu, with advance bookings accumulating a gross of 2.30 crores for the opening day. This figure includes over 1.17 lakh tickets sold. Across India, the film has gathered a total gross of 2.50 crores through advance bookings for its first day. With two more days to go before its release, the film is expected to see further growth in its pre-sales figures. The initial response is promising, positioning Thangalaan for a significant opening at the box office.

Initial Box Office & Expected Opening Day Collections

Given the current booking pace and the advantage of the Independence Day holiday. Thangalaan is projected to earn between 14-17 crores net on its opening day in India. This would place it comfortably ahead of the previous Kollywood opener, Raayan. It had a first-day collection of 13.70 crores, making Thangalaan the second-biggest Kollywood opener of 2024. The top spot remains held by Indian 2, which earned 26 crores on its release day.

Impact of Competition in Telugu States

Despite the strong pre-release buzz, the potential opening for Thangalaan in Telugu-speaking states might be slightly affected due to competition. On August 15, two other major films, Mr. Bachchan and Double iSmart, are also set to release in Telugu markets.

This competition could impact Thangalaan’s performance in the Telugu states, where Vikram enjoys a considerable fan following. Nonetheless, the overall anticipation and holiday advantage are likely to drive strong box office numbers for Thangalaan across India.
