Thangalaan box office collection day 5: film sees a dip on Monday

Thangalaan, featuring Chiyaan Vikram and directed by Pa. Ranjith, began with a promising performance at the box office but experienced a notable decline in collections by its fifth day. Released with considerable anticipation, the film managed to draw audiences during its initial weekend but saw a significant drop as it entered its first Monday.

The film’s opening day was robust, with Thangalaan earning ₹13.3 crore. The Tamil version of the film led the way, followed by the Telugu and Malayalam versions. This strong start set a positive tone for the weekend, although the first Friday’s earnings were somewhat disappointing. On its first Friday, the film collected ₹4.75 crore, marking a steep drop of 64.29% from its opening day figures.

Weekend Box Office Performance

Throughout the weekend, Thangalaan showed a slight improvement in collections. On Saturday, the film earned ₹5.65 crore, and on Sunday, it brought in ₹5.75 crore. This uptick indicated a small but positive increase in audience turnout, particularly during the evening and night shows. Despite this minor recovery, the film’s performance remained under scrutiny, as it struggled to regain the momentum from its initial release.

Decline on Day Five: The Impact of Monday

On its fifth day, which was the first Monday, Thangalaan saw a significant drop in collections, earning approximately ₹2 crore across all languages. This decrease brought the film’s total domestic box office collection to ₹31.45 crore. The drop in earnings reflects a broader trend of declining interest after the initial burst of enthusiasm during the opening days.

Thangalaan Mixed Reception

Thangalaan opened on August 15, coinciding with the Independence Day holiday, which typically boosts box office collections. Despite this advantageous release date, the film struggled to maintain its early momentum throughout the extended weekend. The movie’s performance has been lower than anticipated, even though it received a mix of reviews from both audiences and critics.

Directed by Pa. Ranjith, Thangalaan is a period drama set in the pre-Independence era, specifically in the year 1850 CE in Veppur village, North Arcot. The film shares thematic similarities with the KGF series, particularly in its depiction of Kolar Gold Fields, which was one of its major attractions. Produced by Gnanavel Raja and co-written by Prabha and Pa Ranjith, the film’s narrative aims to capture historical and dramatic elements of the era.
