Actor Suresh Gopi Resigns from Ministry in Modi 3.0 Cabinet

Suresh Gopi, the popular Malayalam actor-turned-politician, recently made headlines when he expressed his desire to resign from his ministerial position in the Union Cabinet. After taking the oath as Minister of State in the Modi 3.0 government, Gopi surprised many by stating that he wanted to be relieved from the post and focus on serving the people of Thrissur constituency as an MP.

Gopi’s decision came shortly after he won the Thrissur parliamentary seat, a significant achievement for the BJP in Kerala. Defeating the CPI’s VS Sunil Kumar by 74,000 votes, he became the first BJP MP from the state. During the 2024 Lok Sabha election campaign, Gopi had campaigned with the slogan ‘A Union Minister for Thrissur, Modi’s guarantee’.

The actor-politician reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his prior film commitments, a testament to his multi-faceted approach. “My aim is to work as an MP. I didn’t ask for anything and had said that I don’t need this post. I think I will be relieved from the post soon. There is no problem with Thrissur voters. They know it, and as an MP, I will perform really well for them. I have to do my films that i have signed earlier at any cost,” he stated during an interview with a regional channel in Delhi.

But Netizens claim that there is another reason for his resignation to the post. Reportedly, Suresh Gopi is not happy with the position that he was offered and it also doesnot belong to cabinet. So for this reason, Suresh decided to resign with his self respect. But he did not choose to speak about this.

Gopi’s inclusion in the Modi 3.0 government was a strategic move by the BJP to demonstrate its seriousness about its plans for Kerala, which faces elections in 2026. His decision to prioritize his role as an MP over the ministerial position reflects his commitment to serving the people who elected him. Despite rumors of his resignation, Gopi later clarified that he was proud to represent Kerala in the Council of Ministers and had no intention of stepping down.
