The Russo Brothers’ Deal

Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously directed the blockbuster hits “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” are reportedly being paid $80 million to direct the upcoming films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” This deal is notable not only for its size. But also because it includes performance escalators that activate at the $750 million and $1 billion box office thresholds. The Russo Brothers’ last two Marvel films collectively grossed $4.85 billion, setting high expectations for their upcoming projects.

In a rare move for Marvel, the Russo Brothers will also co-produce the next two Avengers movies under their production house, AGBO Films. This co-production deal signifies Marvel’s confidence in the Russo Brothers’ ability to deliver another round of box office hits.

Downey’s new deal reportedly exceeds the $80 million being paid to the Russo Brothers. His contract also includes perks such as private jet travel, dedicated security, and a “trailer encampment.” Downey’s return is particularly noteworthy given his character’s death in “Avengers: Endgame.” He is expected to play the chief antagonist, Dr. Doom, in the upcoming films.

Downey’s influence on the deal is evident, as he insisted on the Russo Brothers directing the movies.
