If the reports are to be believed, director Mohan Raja and co have decided to release the dubbed version of Godfather in Malayalam, the language in which the original for their film Mohanlal’s Lucifer was made and released. It was a blockbuster and created new records in Mollywood.
While it is understandable from the side of producers that their reason is to gain as much as money they can, it’s totally baffling how Megastar Chiranjeevi, the actor, nodded to this decision, says the cine experts. Bollywood Megastar Salman Khan has a good following in Malayalam. It’s being said that it is the reason behind the ploy of Godfather’s Mallu release.
Netizens are trolling that it’s like buying a food item from a person and selling it again to the same person after adding some masala. Well, there is a pinch of truth in it as well. A few years ago, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s film Narasimha Naidu was remade with Action King Arjun in Kannada and was released again in Telugu with a name change. It backfired so much that Arjun’s team received a severe backlash from the Telugu audience for re-releasing the dubbing version of a local superhit movie.
A few of Thalapathy’s Tamil movies too had seen the same fate. Now, even the mega team is following the same suit. Will they gain any advantage or get the same result similar to those remakes? Time will tell.
