Sharmin gets trolled for attending Radhika and Anant’s wedding

In recent weeks, actress Sharmin Segal has been at the centre of a social media storm. Her comments about renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been talk of the town for a long time after the release of Heeramandi. Sharmin gets trolled for attending Radhika and Anant’s wedding.

During the interview, Segal was asked about her experience working with Bhansali on the upcoming project Heeramandi. While her co-star, Sanjeeda Shaikh, praised Bhansali’s perfectionism and creative brilliance, Segal took a different stance. She described the term “perfectionist” as “basic” and suggested that it didn’t fully capture Bhansali’s multifaceted approach to filmmaking.

Netizens swiftly reacted to Segal’s remarks, accusing her of disrespecting Sanjeeda Shaikh and undermining Bhansali’s reputation. Some pointed out that Segal had only worked on three projects and lacked the experience to judge Bhansali’s directorial style. Others defended Bhansali, emphasising the outstanding performances delivered by other “outsiders” in his films.

Segal’s troubles didn’t end there. Her portrayal of Alamzeb in Heeramandi also drew criticism. Viewers claimed that she maintained the same expression throughout the series, leading to a barrage of negative comments on social media. Even her co-star Richa Chadha weighed in, acknowledging the audience’s right to express their opinions but urging restraint in the face of relentless trolling.

Few of them said, ‘She insulted SLB to that extent where he doesn’t wanna take a picture with her’. Another user wrote, ‘Itni bhi acting waha karleti behen to troll na hoti’ which means ‘If you acted this way (gracefully smiling and enjoying the moment) you would have escaped trolling’.

In response to the backlash, Segal broke her silence, defending her performance. She asserted that she had given her all to the character of Alamzeb and urged people to focus on the positives rather than fixating on perceived shortcomings. Despite the criticism, Segal remains committed to her craft and hopes to learn and grow from the experience.

The incident serves as a reminder that public figures must tread carefully when discussing their colleagues and industry veterans. While constructive criticism is essential, maintaining respect and humility is equally crucial. As Segal navigates this storm, she’ll need to strike a balance between expressing her views and maintaining professional decorum. After all, in the world of showbiz, reputations can be as fragile as a film reel
