Abhay Verma signs Munjya 2: Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor in race?

Abhay Verma, the actor from Munjya, is currently reveling in the film’s successful performance at the box office. In a recent exclusive interview with Koimoi, he discussed his role in Dinesh Vijan’s horror comedy universe and shared the story of how he secured the part.

The Journey to Signing Munjya 2

During the exclusive conversation, Verma disclosed that Munjya was initially intended to mark Alia Bhatt’s debut in the horror-comedy genre. If Bhatt was unavailable, Shraddha Kapoor was the next choice. However, fate smiled upon Verma, leading him to this opportunity.

Reflecting on how he came to be part of Munjya, Verma humbly remarked, “Securing such an opportunity feels like a blessing for a newcomer. There were numerous compelling reasons to sign Munjya. It stands out as a unique film within the Hindi film industry, something that’s never been attempted before.”

The Appeal of Maddock Films

He continued, “Dinesh Vijan and Maddock Films have a remarkable track record, from Cocktail to Munjya. They have embarked on a significant journey, producing several cult classics. This background inspired me to experiment, which aligns with my desire to explore new things. That’s why I was drawn to a horror comedy. Even though I believe comedy is a genre best tackled with some experience, as understanding humor is crucial for an actor, I felt this was an exceptional opportunity.”

A Groundbreaking Film in Hindi Cinema

Verma emphasized his reasons for choosing Munjya, saying, “Honestly, the main reason for signing this film was its uniqueness. Such a project has never been undertaken in Hindi cinema before. I prefer to be a trendsetter rather than a follower.”

Initial Casting Choices

Verma also touched on the casting evolution of Munjya. He confessed, “Originally, the character Bittu was envisioned as a girl, with Alia Bhatt expected to play the role. Later, Shraddha Kapoor was considered. Eventually, the producers decided to change Bittu’s character from female to male, which led to my casting. It feels like a stroke of luck, and I’m grateful to be part of this industry.”

Future Prospects for Munjya 2

When asked about the possibility of Munjya integrating into the Stree universe or a potential sequel, Verma shared, “Munjya isn’t disappearing anytime soon. However, we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds. Munjya has been put aside for now, but I believe he’ll make a return. Let’s hope for another installment. Even I don’t have all the answers, but we can manifest another chapter of Munjya together.”
