The Financial Dispute

The controversy centres around a loan of Rs 21.29 crore that Vishal’s company received from cinema financier Anbuch Chelian, which was later accepted and paid by Lyca Productions. Lyca has accused Vishal’s company of breaching their agreement by releasing the film ‘Veerame Vagai Choodum’ without repaying the loan. According to the agreement, Lyca was to hold the rights to all films produced by Vishal’s company until the loan was fully repaid.

Courtroom Drama: During the hearing, Vishal appeared in person, represented by senior lawyer V. Raghavachari. When questioned about the agreement, Vishal claimed ignorance, stating that his signature was obtained on a blank piece of paper. This response did not sit well with the judge, who questioned the credibility of Vishal’s statement and asked, “How can you deny your signature? Do you think you are giving a very intelligent answer?”

Judge’s Reprimand: The judge further advised Vishal to answer carefully, emphasizing that the courtroom was not a film set. The situation escalated when Vishal referred to the judge as ‘boss,’ prompting a sharp rebuke. The judge insisted that such informal terms were inappropriate in a court of law and instructed Vishal to respond with simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answers to the questions posed.

Loan Repayment Inquiry

The court also questioned Vishal about his promise to repay the loan before the release of ‘Sandakozhi 2.’ Vishal admitted to taking the loan from Lyca but maintained that he had no knowledge of the specific agreement terms. Dissatisfied with Vishal’s responses, the judge adjourned the cross-examination and ordered him to appear again on August 2.

Ongoing Legal Battle: This case has garnered significant attention due to the high-profile nature of the parties involved. The substantial amount of money at stake. Vishal’s legal troubles with Lyca Productions have been ongoing. With previous court orders mandating him to deposit Rs 15 crore as a permanent deposit and submit property details.
