Asha Parekh Opens Up About Rumored Marriage

Legendary actress Asha Parekh is set to grace Arbaaz Khan’s talk show The Invincibles Series Season 2, where she candidly discusses various aspects of her life and career. In a recently released promo by Bollywood Bubble on YouTube, Asha Parekh addressed the longstanding rumors surrounding her alleged marriage to the iconic actor Shammi Kapoor.

Clarifying the Shammi Kapoor Rumor

When host Arbaaz Khan inquired about the rumor that Shammi Kapoor claimed they had tied the knot, Asha Parekh responded, “Yes, we are married.” This playful acknowledgment sheds light on their close friendship, which was well-documented through their collaborations in popular films like Teesri Manzil, Batwara, and Dil Deke Dekho. While Shammi Kapoor married actress Geeta Bali in 1955, and later Neila Devi in 1969 after Bali’s passing, Asha Parekh has never married. Shammi Kapoor passed away in 2011 at the age of 79, leaving behind a rich legacy in Indian cinema.

Tensions with Shatrughan Sinha

In the same promo, Asha Parekh reflected on her working relationship with actor Shatrughan Sinha, revealing some tensions on set. She quoted Sinha, saying, “Mai jaise kehta hu vaise hona chahiye” (It should be done the way I say). Asha clarified that Sinha made derogatory statements in the press that were directed at him, not at her. The two actors worked together in several films, including Mere Apne, Sajan, and Heera.

Beyond acting, Asha Parekh has also ventured into directing, helming TV shows like Dal Mein Kala Hai, Kora Kagaz, and Kangan. Reflecting on her directorial experiences, she expressed her authoritative approach on set, humorously stating, “Because I was the only girl, to mai zara apna dadagiri bhi kar leti thi” (So, I used to show a bit of my bossiness as well).

With a prolific career spanning from the 1950s to the 1990s, Asha Parekh has starred in numerous memorable films such as Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai, Aaye Din Bahar Ke, and Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki. Her insights into her personal and professional life reveal a multifaceted talent whose impact on Indian cinema continues to resonate today.
