Avatar: The Way of the Water’ Surpasses $1 Billion

Avatar: The Way of the Water is creating a sensation in the new year as well with continually growing box office success.

The film bagged the $1 billion mark a few days ago and the film is at $1.37 billion globally and on track to hit $1.4 soon. Interesting is that Part 2 Way of the Water surpassed its 2009 predecessor in the opening weekend, raking in $134 million over Avatar’s $77 million.

However, Cameron in an interview last week spoke about break-even and said “Avatar: The Way of Water needs to be one of the highest-grossing movies in history”. Sources close to the production house claim he was being somewhat hyperbolic and set the break-even figure at closer to $1.4 billion — a milestone that the sequel has a good chance of achieving.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” has Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver in crucial roles. This cast was there in the first part as well. The part 2 also includes franchise newcomer Kate Winslet, who previously starred in Cameron’s “Titanic” another water-based epic that defied the odds to become a box office sensation.
