BlackPink’s Twitter account receives backlash from Chinese fans

BlackPink’s Twitter account used the “Macanese” word to address fans in one of the tweets which are now changed to “Macau”, causing anger among Chinese netizens.

A debate among netizens took place on a Korean online community platform by Chinese fans regarding BLACKPINK’s use of the word “Macanese” in place of “Chinese” to address BLINKs.

The dispute took place on May 23, after the group’s recent performance in Macau. This didn’t go well with the Chinese fans and they took to social media to express their displeasure regarding the same and demanded an explanation from the Kpop group.

One user wrote, “BLACKPINK intentionally replaced ‘Macanese’ with ‘Chinese,’ but weren’t it the Chinese stars who actively pursued this Korean girl group?.”

The tweet that arose outrage read, “We were deeply touched by our Macanese BLINKs this week. Thank you for all the heartfelt support. We are truly blessed to have you guys. 520 forever BLINKs” which has been now changed to “We were deeply touched by our Macau BLINKs this week. Thank you for all the heartfelt support. We are truly blessed to have you guys. 520 forever BLINKs.”
