Esha Deol says “Maybe dad watches this, I better be well dressed”

Esha Deol, who made a notable return to acting with Ajay Devgn’s streaming series Rudra: The Edge of Darkness (2022), is eager to explore diverse roles as she embarks on a new chapter in her career. Recently divorced from her husband of 11 years, Bharat Takhtani, Esha reflects on how her perspective has evolved over the years.

Reflecting on Past Statements

In a recent interview, Esha Deol was reminded of her appearance on the popular celebrity chat show Koffee with Karan almost two decades ago. Back then, she spoke about failure and self-reflection, but now she finds that her past statements don’t resonate with her current self. “I said this back then? I don’t know why I spoke and gave so much philosophy then. I am getting myself in trouble with what I said then. I don’t think it resonates to what I am today,” Esha remarked.

Remembering the Koffee with Karan Episode

Despite not recalling her philosophical comments, Esha vividly remembers her attire for the show. She chose a salwar-kameez over glamorous outfits, considering her father Dharmendra’s orthodox views. “I wore a salwar-kurta and Karan (Johar) was like (shows amused expression) and I was like, ‘Maybe dad watches this, I better be well dressed’,” she shared, highlighting her respect for her father’s sentiments.

Navigating Industry Challenges

Esha’s journey in the entertainment industry has been influenced by her father Dharmendra’s protective nature. In an earlier interview with indianexpress.com, she revealed that Dharmendra was initially against her becoming an actor, despite his sons Bobby and Sunny Deol being established stars. “He is possessive and orthodox, and for him, girls should be kept away from the world in a protected way,” Esha explained. However, she managed to carve out her own path despite these challenges.

Embracing Diverse Roles

As Esha Deol enters this new phase of her career, she is excited about taking on diverse roles that challenge her and showcase her versatility as an actor. Her comeback with Rudra: The Edge of Darkness has reignited her passion for acting, and she is keen on exploring a variety of characters that reflect her growth and experiences.
