FIR Registered against Rakshit Shetty, Actor Faces Copyright Allegations. Rakshit Shetty, a prominent figure in the Kannada film industry, has found himself entangled in legal woes once again. The Yeshwanthpur police recently registered an FIR against him and Paramvah Studios under Section 63 of the Copyright Act, 1957. The bone of contention? Unauthorized use of two Kannada songs in their latest release, Bachelor Party, which hit screens on January 26, 2024.

The Complainant and the Allegations

Naveen Kumar M, partner and authorized signatory of MRT Music, filed the complaint. His company holds the rights to the songs in question: the title track “Nyaya Ellide” and “Omme Ninnannu” (originally from the film Gaali Maathu). According to Naveen, Rakshit Shetty had approached MRT Music seeking permission to use these songs in Bachelor Party. However, permission was denied.

Discovery of Unauthorized Usage: Naveen’s suspicions were aroused when he watched Bachelor Party on Amazon Prime Video. To his dismay, he realized that the film featured the contested songs without proper authorization. This discovery prompted him to take legal action against Rakshit and Paramvah Studios.

Rakshit Shetty’s History of Copyright Disputes

This isn’t the first time Rakshit Shetty has faced legal battles related to copyright issues. In a previous high-profile case, he was embroiled in a four-year tussle with Lahari Velu, the director of Lahari Music. The dispute arose during the release of the Rishab Shetty-directed film Kirik Party in 2016.

The Compromise: After years of legal wrangling, a resolution was finally reached in 2021. Vijay Kiragandur, owner of Hombale Films, played a crucial role in facilitating a compromise between the parties. While the specifics of the compromise remain confidential, it allowed both Lahari Music and Paramvah Studios to move forward without further litigation.
