Grammys 2024: Zakir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan makes India proud

It’s a proud day for India! Musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion band Shakti clinched the Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Album for their latest release, ‘This Moment’.

On Sunday, Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain was among the winners of three Grammy Awards for Best Global Music Performance, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, and Best Global Music. Flautist Rakesh Chaurasia won two of the awards along with Hussain.

The album titled This Moment, created by John McLaughlin (guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (singer), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist), was released on June 30 of the previous year.

According to McLaughlin, a lot of heart and soul went into making the new “studio” record, This Moment. This album is a watershed moment in Shakti’s career as a musician. Commencing in 1973, it signifies half a century of collaboration and performance.
