HBO Confirms Filming of Game of Thrones Prequel in Ireland

Five years after the conclusion of Game of Thrones, the epic saga continues with new adventures. HBO has confirmed that the filming of the prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has begun in Belfast, Ireland. This prequel is adapted from R.R. Martin’s novella, The Hedge Knight, and will delve into the tales of two heroes from Westeros during the Targaryen rule.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set a century before the events of Game of Thrones and a century after House of the Dragon. The series will follow Ser Duncan the Tall, a naive yet brave knight, and his young squire, Egg. The story promises great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits, offering fans a deeper look into the era when the Targaryens ruled the Iron Throne and the last dragon’s memory still lingered.

Meet the Cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

HBO has unveiled the talented cast of this highly anticipated prequel. Peter Claffey will take on the role of Ser Duncan the Tall, while Dexter Sol Ansell will portray his squire, Egg. The cast also includes Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Maekar Targaryen.

The first look of Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan Tall was released on Instagram, sparking excitement among fans. One user commented, “He looks perfect!” Another added, “If this is Dunk then I must say the casting is pretty spot on for me at least.” Fans of the books expressed their satisfaction, with one stating, “He looks exactly how I imagined him while reading the books. You have no idea how much I love Dunk and Egg.”

Anticipation Builds for the 2025 Release

While HBO has not yet announced an official release date for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it is expected to premiere in 2025. The prequel promises to introduce familiar surnames and characters, including Ser Lyonel Baratheon and multiple Targaryens such as Aerion and Baelor Targaryen.

The original series co-creator, along with Ira Parker, will write and executive produce the prequel, ensuring the new series maintains the rich storytelling and complex character dynamics that fans have come to love. With filming underway and a stellar cast in place, anticipation for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms continues to build, promising another enthralling journey into the world of Westeros.
