Abhignana Sakunthalam written by the great writer Kalidasa is said to be a great love poem in our history. All those who have been listening to the love story of Shakuntalam for generations continue to praise it. Films were made on this story in the past at a time when mythology was being filmed. In some of the films, Shakuntalam story was shown as a short episode.
But senior director Gunasekhar tried to present that love story to the audience of this generation by using the current technology. He himself bankrolled the film with the support of producer Dil Raju. However, though the film was made on a huge budget, it reminded me of disaster. Even on the weekend, the movie failed to perform well and bagged at the box office.
Meanwhile, appreciating the director Gunasekhar who dared to make such a film these days, Senior writer Paruchuri Gopalakrishna pointed out the mistakes he made in this movie. On Paruchuri Palukulu YouTube channel, he analyzed the movie ‘Sakunthalam’. He said that Gunasekhar has written the story of this movie well and shot it well till the first half. But it was the second half that stood as the biggest minus.
Paruchuri pointed out that it was wrong to show people beating Shaakuntalam with stones when Dusyanthu refused. He said that this has not happened in any version of the story of ‘Shakunthalam’ so far. He said that Gunasekhar may have done this to arouse sentiment among the female audience, but that went very wrong. He said that all the actors including Samantha have done their job very well in this film.
