Huma Qureshi announces new film titled Bayaan

Huma Qureshi has revealed her next venture, an investigative police procedural drama titled Bayaan. This upcoming film, which will see her in the lead role, is backed by the award-winning producer Shiladitya Bora.

The project was developed at Film Independent in Los Angeles and will be directed by Bikas Mishra, renowned for his critically acclaimed feature film Chauranga. Qureshi shared her excitement about the project on Instagram, emphasizing the unique combination of a fantastic script, a talented crew, and their unwavering dedication.

In her Instagram post, Huma Qureshi expressed her enthusiasm for Bayaan, highlighting the film’s development at Film Independent, Los Angeles. She wrote, “A film I am very excited about #Bayaan, developed at Film Independent, Los Angeles, goes on floors. It’s a rare combination: a fantastic script, a talented crew, and their complete dedication to their work. The energy is infectious.” She credited Bikas Mishra as the writer and director. And mentioned the film’s producers: Shiladitya Bora (Platoon One Films), Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunal Kumar, and Anshuman Singh.

Bayaan has garnered international support, being backed by the International Film Festival Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund. The film was developed during the LA Residency, part of the Global Media Makers (GMM) program at Film Independent in Los Angeles.

During this residency, director Bikas Mishra received mentorship from Craig Mazin, known for HBO’s Chernobyl, and script advice from writer Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson. This international collaboration has added a unique depth and expertise to the project.

Plot and Setting

Set against the picturesque landscape of Rajasthan, Bayaan tells the compelling story of a father-daughter duo. The narrative centers on Roohi, a female detective dispatched to a small town in Rajasthan.

To tackle the first major case of her career as a lead investigator. Despite her determination and skill, she encounters a formidable adversary with deep-rooted influence in the local system. Roohi’s journey is not only about solving the case but also about upholding her father’s legendary legacy in law enforcement, adding a personal dimension to the procedural drama.

Production and Cast

The film, which also stars Chandrachur Singh and Sachin Khedekar, is set to commence production in Rajasthan this month. Bayaan is jointly produced by Shiladitya Bora (Platoon One Films), Madhu Sharma (Summit Studios), Kunal Kumar, and Anshuman Singh. The film’s development and support by the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Along with the mentorship received during the LA Residency, highlight the collaborative and international nature of the project. The film’s production team and cast are poised to bring this intricate and compelling story to life, blending procedural drama with personal legacy and cultural richness.
