If ‘Bawaal’ was a person, it’d be Varun and Janhvi’s first poster

When the upcoming movie Bawaal‘s talk first started on the Internet, everyone presumed it to be mediocre, apt for just a one-time watch. But Amazon Prime’s Instagram post from today tells us we may have judged it a little too soon. It was expected to be another modern romance with casual feelings and fooling around, which it isn’t. Sometimes, it’s good to be proven wrong.

Thankfully, the poster is an indication of a better outcome. Under the direction of Nitesh Tiwari and Sajid Nadiadwala’s production, Amazon Prime is releasing Bawaal worldwide in over 200 countries and territories. The tagline in the poster, “Every love story has its own war,” elicits that there’s more to the movie than just a monotonous rom-com plot. We see at the bottom, soldiers and ammunitions on a battlefield – implying that the theme is plotted in a warzone setting. The production cost of the movie seems to be high, considering it is shot across three Indian locations and five European countries. Bawaal will release on Amazon Prime in July 2023, the precise details are unknown as of now.

All theatre-established movie stars are slowly signing in with OTTs. Varun Dhawan skipped theatre and went directly to Amazon Prime with Coolie No. 1. Dhadak’s Janhnvi Kapoor was spotted twice – Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and Good Luck Jerry on Disney+ Hotstar. July can be called the ‘film marathon month of the year’ with cluttered releases of anticipated movies. Satyaprem Ki Katha, Indiana Jones: The Dial of Destiny, Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Barbie. To top it off, we have ‘the new era of love’ starting with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. Cherry on the cake? Nah, it’s a cherry tower waiting to collapse into magic sand.
