“I’ve always been tremendously curious about the tarot,” Depp shared in a video, expressing his fascination with the intricate art and historical significance of tarot cards. The collection is set to go on sale on Thursday, with limited editions available through British art retailer Castle Fine Art.
Tribute to Vanessa Paradis and Artistic Symbolism
One of the standout pieces in Depp’s “Tarot” series is “The Empress,” a tribute to his former partner, French actor and singer Vanessa Paradis. The artwork features a female figure wearing a weathered crown, symbolizing Paradis, with whom Depp shares two children and a 14-year relationship that ended in 2012. Despite their split, Depp mentioned they have remained “very close,” adding a personal touch to the artwork.
“The Lovers” depicts a well-dressed couple, with the male figure holding a red rose, symbolizing love and connection. “Strength,” inspired by a painting Depp created when Paradis was pregnant, showcases a gazing elephant inscribed with the words: “Why do you want to fight with something that doesn’t want to fight with you?” This piece emphasizes resilience and inner strength.
“The Emperor,” eyeless but adorned with red lips, recalls a 17th-century French monarch. This piece was inspired by Depp’s role as King Louis XV in the film “Jeanne du Barry,” which premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The movie marked Depp’s first major role since his high-profile defamation trial against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in 2022.

Depp’s “Tarot” series is limited to 195 editions, with each framed piece priced at $4,500.
