Joker 2: Disappointing India Box Office Collections

Joker 2 had a lackluster opening at the international and Indian box office. Especially in light of the first installment’s phenomenal performance. The film may debut in India with a net worth of Rs 5 crore, which is comparable to the amount its last installment made in 2019, especially when it was released alone on Gandhi Jayanti, a national holiday.

On the other hand, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and War 2 clashed in the last episode.

Word-of-mouth for the Todd Philips-directed film has been mixed to negative, which guaranteed its failure at the box office. It will be interesting to watch, though, if the film can maintain its momentum in the coming days and compete with the fresh releases around Dussehra. Joker 2 might have been a hit in South India if it had received such a positive reception, but right now things are looking quite bleak.

Joker: Folie à Deux takes place after Robert De Niro’s character, Murray Franklin, is shot and killed by Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) during his live talk show. While he waits to be tried for his crimes as the Joker, Arthur Fleck is institutionalized in Arkham Asylum. Arthur faces five separate murder charges. The prosecution on behalf of State tries to show Arthur fully in control of himself when he murdered civilians. And he played the role ever since, while Arthur’s defense attorney tries to show it was not Arthur but rather his alter ego. Joker, that was responsible for the killings and that now he is completely sane. It turns out to be the first court case to air on television.

At the asylum, Arthur meets Lady Gaga’s character Harley Quinn, and the two fall in love. Quinn’s compatibility with his freak makes them more amiable.
