Kalki 2898 AD Creates History with Rs 180 Crore Opening

Third Biggest Opener in Indian Cinema

Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, has created history at the box office by becoming the third biggest opener in Indian cinema. According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com, the film grossed a massive Rs 180 crore-plus on its opening day. Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD earned around Rs 95 crore net in India across all languages, with a gross collection estimated at Rs 115 crore. Overall, the film has grossed over Rs 180 crore worldwide on its first day, surpassing the global opening records of KGF 2 (Rs 159 crore), Salaar (Rs 158 crore), Leo (Rs 142.75 crore), Sahoo (Rs 130 crore), and Jawan (Rs 129 crore).

The film had a grand worldwide release on June 27, with advance bookings selling more than 20 lakh tickets across all languages. This impressive performance places Kalki 2898 AD just behind RRR, which remains the highest Indian opener with Rs 223 crore collections, followed by Baahubali 2 with over Rs 217 crore on its opening day.

Positive Reviews and Standout Performances

Kalki 2898 AD has opened to largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. News18 Showsha rated the film 4/5, praising the performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Prabhas. The review stated, “Kalki is an out-and-out Amitabh film. Even though we see very little of him in the first half, the actor’s screen time increases in the second half. The intensity with which he delivers his dialogues is worth praising. Prabhas’ Bhairava and Bujji add an element of humour to Kalki 2898 AD. Even though Prabhas’ action sequences in the first half lack energy, he stuns all with his fierce avatar in the second half of the film. His face-off with Amitabh surely deserves a special mention and is one of the major highlights of the film.”

The film’s unique blend of Hindu mythology and science fiction revolves around a modern avatar of Lord Vishnu, who has descended on Earth to protect the world from the forces of evil. This innovative storyline, combined with stellar performances and high production values, has contributed to the film’s record-breaking success.

Kalki 2898 AD’s historic opening and positive reception are testaments to the film’s strong appeal and the star power of its leading actors. As the film continues to draw audiences, it is expected to maintain its impressive box office run and set new benchmarks in Indian cinema.
