Kamal Nailed it, It’s Rajini’s Turn!

There is a saying in the Cricket – “Form is temporary, class is permanent.” It seems like this applies to Kollywood too. The two pillars of the Tamil film Industry- Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayan Kamal Hassan were thought to be out of form for the past few years. While Rajini managed to pull the masses, Kamal was completely dried out of a proper blockbuster film for over a decade. Viswaroopam and Dasavataram were decent hits, but the collections weren’t up to his stardom. But, the star’s latest release-Vikram showed the world how these old horses are still strong and can create a storm when a proper script falls in place.

Kamal swept away many records in Tamil Industry with Vikram. The film recently crossed Rs 400 Crores, and interestingly, the only other flick with more than Rs 400 Crores collection was his colleague Rajini’s Robo 2. No one from the likes of Ajith, Thalapathy Vijay, Suriya, Vikram, or any other youngsters of Kollywood were able to breach the Rs 400 Crore mark. This is an example of how both the old engines still have enough gas left in the tanks to rake in the collections.

As Kamal’s mettle is proved, now it’s the turn of Superstar Rajini to make a strong comeback. His Sivaji, Robo, and Robo-2 were blockbusters, and Petta was a decent film yet failed at the box office. Linga, Kaala, Darbar, and Annathey have all bombed. Now, Rajini fans’ hopes are all locked on the Jailer movie.

The director of the Jailer- Nelson Dilipkumar, scored a flop with his earlier film Vijay’s Beast. Even he needs to prove his worth as the big stars still believe him. Bankrolled by Sun Pictures, Jailer has Anirudh Ravichander providing the tunes, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan could possibly be the female lead. The film’s first look showing a blood-soaked machete has provided the Thalaivar fans with the kick they needed. If Rajini can replicate the success of Kamal’s Vikram, one can surely say that the legends are back.
