Kangana’s controversial comments didn’t make Dhaakad a flop show; Taran Adarsh explains

Kangana Ranaut is an Indian Bollywood actress, popularly known for her role ‘Tanu’ in Tanu Weds Manu with Madhavan R. It’s sequel was also a pretty bit hit with its rom-com sizzler. Other than this, she’s been a part of Gangster. Life In A…Metro, Fashion, Krrish 3, Raaz: The Mystery Continues, and Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. Krrish 3 became of her highest-grossing films back in the day.

Recently, she was cast in the movie Dhaakad, released on May 20th, 2022. This movie is a suspense thriller where Kangana as Agent Agni wants to drag Rudraveer by his collar, a trafficker in India. Before the end goal, Agni is exposed to twists and turns that make her stomach churn.

The synopsis sounds interesting but the movie turned out to be a flop. With a box office collection of just 3.7 crores, there’s hardly any activity happening about the release. The gossip masters have blamed this on Kangana’s personal life – her involvement in several controversies over a period of time. One time, she compared India with Pakistan and on Koffee With Karan, she called Karan Johar the flag bearer of nepotism which stirred a lot of drama in the industry.

Tarun Adarsh, a famous Indian film critic and veteran trade analyst gave two cents on an interview with Bollywood Hungama, clarifying that an actor’s hit-or-flop game is based solely on the film, not their personal decisions. He said that the movie is a flop because the writing is weak and it fell against a blockbuster hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. He said firmly, “When Dhaakad flopped, the entire blame fell on Kangana. But I feel Kangana did very well in the movie.”
