Karan Johar Honors Yash Johar’s 20th Anniversary

To mark the 20th death anniversary of his father, the legendary filmmaker Yash Johar, Karan Johar took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute. Yash Johar, who passed away in June 2004, was a stalwart in the Indian film industry and the founder of Dharma Productions. Karan’s heartfelt post included a series of nostalgic photos, capturing the essence of his father’s legacy and their cherished moments together.

In his touching Instagram post, Karan Johar revealed the profound impact his father had on his life and career. One of the shared pictures showed Yash Johar holding his Filmfare Award, while another depicted him with his close friend, Yash Chopra. Karan’s mother, Hiroo Johar, also appeared in one of the heartwarming photos. Reflecting on his father’s battle with cancer, Karan wrote, “I can’t believe it’s been 20 years… My biggest fear was losing a parent… August 2nd, 2003 my father told me he had a malignant tumour… my worst nightmare was staring at me and yet it was my duty as his child to stay positive and keep the faith… but the worst thing about instincts are that… they never lie…”

Karan continued, “He left us 10 months after… We lost him… but we gained every inch of his mammoth goodwill… I was so proud to be the son of the most solid, soulful and selfless man… he put his relationships above everything else… and has left a legacy of love that my mother and I still live by.”

Yash Johar was a trailblazer in the Indian film industry, known for his exceptional production skills and the establishment of Dharma Productions. He produced numerous iconic films such as Dostana (1980), Duniya (1984), Agneepath (1990), Gumrah (1993), Duplicate (1998), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), and Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). His contributions have left an indelible mark on Bollywood, influencing generations of filmmakers and audiences alike.

In his tribute, Karan also expressed his longing for his children to have known their grandfather. He concluded, “I wish he knew our children… but I do know he’s watching over them and us… all the time… Love you Papa…” The post received heartfelt reactions from celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Manish Malhotra, Manisha Koirala, Anil Kapoor, and Zoya Akhtar, who all shared their fond memories and admiration for Yash Johar.
