South Korean Female directors have been making their presence felt in the male-dominated Korean film industry. Now, they have their own Seoul International Women’s Film Festival to celebrate the rise of Female filmmakers in the Korean film industry.

1. Little Forrest
It is a therapeutic movie that tells the story of Hye Won. Having become weary of the busy city life, she returns to her home in the village after failing her teacher’s entrance exam. While she initially claims to only visit for a few days, eventually, during the period, she discovers ways to sustain her life.
The direction, cinematography, and cast performances are authentic and natural, and you can feel and breathe the fresh air of that beautiful village. Director Yim Soon Rye said that she hoped that the movie could heal and soothe the younger generation. She is not just a director but a brilliant and great storyteller the current generation needs. The film is a masterpiece. Kim Tae Ri effortlessly nailed her role with her natural performances.
2. Kim Ji- Young : Born 1982
The film is directed by debutant Kim Do Yung and follows the life of Kim Ji Young, who is in her 30s, suffering from postpartum depression, and starts acting strangely, seemingly possessed by her mother and late grandmother. The film explores patriarchy, gender discrimination, and postpartum depression.
The film authentically depicts the sufferings of a young mother due to a lack of support from family and self-care. Despite criticism, the film became a box-office success and won multiple awards. The film was very well executed in terms of direction, acting, background score, and editing. Kim Do Yung did a fantastic job selecting the actors, Jung Yu Mi and Gong Yoo, who did a brilliant job.
