One failed relationship does not mean that I become cynical – Samantha

Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who is gearing up for the release of the upcoming Telugu mythological drama Shaakuntalam, is currently busy with its promotions. In these promotional interviews, she talked about her personal issues as well.

Samantha, who got divorced from Naga Chaitanya a few years back, when asked about love, said an interesting answer. She said “It’s not necessarily a love between a man and a woman, the love that keeps me going is the love of my friends, who stood by me in the last eight months. I have so much love to give. I’m still extremely loving. One failed relationship does not mean that I become cynical and bitter.”

Also talking about Shakuntala as a character and why she related to her in the first place, Samantha added, “Shakuntala despite being from centuries ago, her character is so modern. She appeals to the contemporary woman in me. She is fiercely independent, she has beliefs, and she goes against societal norms. But she is unwaveringly truthful and loving in her devotion, even in the hardest parts of her journey. She does it with so much grace and dignity. And those were the parts that I connected to. That’s what makes epic characters. You go through adversity, but it’s the choices that you make which portray you like a hero and a heroine. I think that is where I connected with Shakuntala. She went through the worst adversities but held herself with such dignity and grace.”

In Shaakuntalam, Samantha plays the central character Shakuntala, the daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra. The film, produced and directed by Gunasekhar, will be released in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada on April 14. This project marks Samantha’s maiden collaboration with director Gunasekhar.
