Priyadarshan poured coconut oil on Tabu’s hair

Tabu, one of the most versatile actresses in Hindi cinema, recently shared an intriguing anecdote from her time working on the 1997 film “Virasat.” Known for her remarkable performances in films like “Namesake,” “Maqbool,” “Vijaypath,” “Cheeni Kum,” “Andhadhun,” and “Drishyam,” Tabu is currently busy promoting her upcoming film, “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha,” co-starring Ajay Devgn. However, during a recent interview with Zoom, she took a moment to reminisce about her experience on the set of “Virasat.”

In the interview, Tabu recalled working with the ace filmmaker Priyadarshan. She revealed that Priyadarshan wanted her to have a specific “oily hair” look for her character in the film. To achieve this, he took matters into his own hands quite literally. “When I went on set, he said, ‘I asked you to put oil.’ I said, ‘Yeah, a little. Nice shine is coming.’ So he let it go and then came back with a bottle of coconut oil from behind and poured the entire thing onto my head,” Tabu shared, adding that this incident became a memorable part of her experience on the film set.

Effortless Hairstyling on Set

Tabu further shared that Priyadarshan’s approach made hairstyling incredibly easy for her. She humorously recalled how quick and straightforward it was to get ready for her role. “I used to get ready in five minutes. Long hair, apply oil, braid it, and go to the set,” she said. This method not only saved time but also perfectly suited the look Priyadarshan envisioned for her character.

About Virasat

“Virasat,” a remake of the Tamil movie “Thevar Magan,” featured a stellar cast including Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri, and Pooja Batra alongside Tabu. The story, written by actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan, revolves around Shakti Thakur, played by Anil Kapoor, a London-returned man who visits his ancestral village in India. Pooja Batra played the role of his girlfriend, Anita, while Tabu portrayed Gehna Thakur, Shakti’s wife. The film’s narrative explores the cultural and familial conflicts that arise upon Shakti’s return.

Tabu’s recollections from the set of “Virasat” not only highlight her dedication to her craft but also provide a glimpse into the unique and sometimes humorous moments that occur behind the scenes. As she continues to captivate audiences with her performances, fans eagerly await her next appearance in “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha.”
