Priyanka Chopra Hesitant About Acting Debut in Thamizhan

Priyanka Chopra, who made her acting debut in the 2002 Tamil film Thamizhan opposite Vijay, was initially hesitant to accept the role. In a recent interview with Filmygyan, Priyanka’s mother, Madhu Chopra, shared how she had to persuade her daughter to take the plunge into acting. Despite being crowned Miss World 2000, Priyanka was reluctant to enter the film industry.

Encouragement from Madhu Chopra

Madhu Chopra recounted how Priyanka was in tears at the prospect of acting. She said, “Priyanka didn’t want to star in films. She got the offer for the South Indian film through somebody. When I told Priyanka about the offer, she was in tears, she said, ‘I am not doing films.’ But she has always been an obedient child. When I told her to accept the offer, she agreed and signed the contract (for Thamizhan).”

Adapting to the Film Industry

Once on set, Priyanka began to enjoy the process of filmmaking. Despite the language barrier, she found the experience rewarding. Madhu added, “When she was shooting for the film, she began to like it. Despite not knowing the language, she enjoyed it. The team helped her and treated her with a lot of respect. Vijay starred in the film; he is a perfect gentleman. Raju Sundaram was the choreographer. In dance, Priyanka was okay, but she couldn’t initially match steps with Vijay. She would practice with the choreographer from morning to evening. Then she started enjoying it.”

Building a Successful Career

Priyanka’s experience on the set of Thamizhan helped her realize her passion for acting. This initial hesitation gave way to a successful career in the film industry. Following her debut in Thamizhan, Priyanka made her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003), co-starring Sunny Deol.

Upcoming Projects

Priyanka Chopra continues to make waves in the film industry with several upcoming projects. She is set to star in The Bluff, directed by Frank E Flowers. Additionally, she recently wrapped up shooting for Heads Of State, an action-comedy featuring Idris Elba, John Cena, and Jack Quaid in key roles.

Priyanka Chopra’s journey from Miss World to a celebrated actress demonstrates her versatility and dedication, overcoming initial reluctance to embrace a flourishing career in the entertainment industry.
