Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan celebrates his birthday today, Sunday(March 3). He turns 57 this year. He commenced his career with Indiepop and rose to fame with ”Breathless” which topped the charts in 1998. Recently, the singer made headlines after winning the Best Global Music Album award at the Grammys 2024, along with his band friends, tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, who formed this fusion band ”Shakti”.

Grammy-winning singer and composer Shankar Mahadevan continue to be a monumental figure within the Indian music panorama, enchanting audiences since the mid-nineties. ”Kay Sera Sera”

Perhaps single-handedly responsible for teaching us what Que Sera Sera means, this song from Pukar was composed by AR Rahman. Culturally significant to this day, it was made timeless by Mahadevan and Kavita Krishnamurthy’s vocal prowess. It was written masterfully and ingeniously by Akhtar.

”Mitwa”

Another song in Mahadevan’s top list is ”Mitwa” from ”Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna”. The track stars Rani Mukherjee, Abhishek Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. Sung by Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali and composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. Lyrics penned by Javed Akhtar.

”Maa”

The track based on the special bond between a mother and a son from Aamir Khan’s film ”Taare Zameen Par” always gives goosebumps. The song was composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and penned by Prasoon Joshi.
