Shekhar Suman Joins BJP, Sets Service Deadline

Actor Shekhar Suman recently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the intention of serving the community, but he has made it clear that his involvement comes with a set time limit. Suman, who does not harbor long-term political ambitions, emphasized his commitment to making a difference and his willingness to step back if he cannot achieve his goals.

Joining BJP to Serve

In an interview with News18, Shekhar Suman shared his motivations for joining the BJP. “I want to still be an actor who’s a part of politics so that it empowers me to do the kind of things I want to do for my industry and my state,” he said. Suman reiterated his desire to avoid political conflicts and debates, focusing instead on using his position to contribute positively. “I don’t want to get into any political turmoil and debate and have any political ambitions, so to speak. I’m not a politician. I don’t want to be in politics and yet be in politics and do the kind of things that I wanted to do.”

Commitment with a Time Limit

Suman has set a personal deadline for his political involvement. He stated, “It’s not like if I’m not able to deliver, I’ll still linger on. I’ve set myself a time limit and if I’m not able to deliver what I’ve promised myself, I’ll opt out. I’ve come here for a specific reason – to serve. If I’m unable to serve, there’s no point being there just for the sake of it. But when you come with so much positivity and determination, then God also helps.”

Rejoining Politics After 15 Years

Shekhar Suman re-entered politics by joining the BJP on May 7, 2024, after a 15-year hiatus. He joined the party at its headquarters in New Delhi, in the presence of senior BJP leaders. Suman expressed gratitude for the guidance that led him to this decision, remarking on the importance of divine will in his journey. “One has to do what ‘Lord Ram desires’,” he said.

Previous Political Experience

Suman’s political journey includes a run for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Patna Sahib seat in Bihar on a Congress ticket. However, he finished third in the race, which was won by Shatrughan Sinha, who was then a member of the BJP.

Shekhar Suman’s return to politics is marked by a clear vision and a determination to make a tangible impact. His commitment to stepping away if he cannot fulfill his goals underscores his focus on genuine service rather than political longevity.
