Sunny Deol Accused of Dishonouring Film Commitments

Actor and MP Sunny Deol is embroiled in controversy following accusations from film producer Sorav Gupta of Sundawn Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Gupta has accused Deol of cheating, extortion, and forgery, claiming that the actor accepted advance payments for a film but failed to honor the commitment. The allegations have sparked widespread attention, particularly in light of the success of Deol’s recent film, Gadar 2.

Deal and Advance Payments

Gupta revealed that he signed a deal with Deol in 2016, agreeing to pay the actor ₹4 crore for a film. Gupta alleges that he initially paid Deol ₹1 crore in advance, but instead of starting his film, Deol chose to work on Poster Boys (2017). Gupta states that Deol continued to request more money, accumulating a total of ₹2.55 crore. Despite these payments, Deol did not proceed with Gupta’s film, leading to allegations of breach of contract.

Forgery Allegations

The accusations against Deol took a serious turn when Gupta claimed that the actor forged an agreement with his company in 2023. Gupta explained that upon reviewing the agreement, he discovered significant alterations, including an increase in Deol’s fee from ₹4 crore to ₹8 crore and a profit share adjustment to ₹2 crore. These changes, Gupta contends, were made without his consent, constituting forgery.

Support from Filmmaker Suneel Darshan

Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, known for his work on films like Janwar (1999) and Andaaz (2003), supported Gupta’s allegations. Darshan recounted a similar experience with Deol, alleging that the actor acquired overseas distribution rights for his film Ajay (1996) but only made a partial payment. Darshan claimed that Deol requested additional funds for a new project, promising future collaboration but failing to fulfill his commitments.

Industry Reputation and Additional Complaints

An anonymous industry source described Deol as notorious for dishonoring commitments with multiple producers. The source recounted an incident where Deol allegedly signed a film titled Ram Janmbhumi for ₹5 crore but later demanded ₹25 crore after delivering the blockbuster Gadar 2 (2023). This pattern of behavior has reportedly caused significant issues for several producers.

Legal Actions and Police Complaint

Gupta has filed a police complaint against Sunny Deol, leading to the issuance of a notice to the actor on April 30. Deol’s office responded, stating that he was out of town on the date he was required to present himself. Gupta continues to seek justice, highlighting the financial and professional challenges he has faced due to Deol’s alleged actions.
