He was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. In layman’s terms, this disease is related to the digestive system, where there’s swelling in the digestive tract, causing difficulty in smooth day-to-day functioning. He has spoken about his illness on the big screen as well, in his movie The King of Staten Island.
He mentioned how he feels offended when people prejudice him as a ‘pothead’ because he uses cannabis (weed) to deal with Crohn’s. “My stomach would be in pain all day and I wouldn’t be able to eat, but then I’d smoke and I can eat and do my shows,” were his exact words. There’s no cure for Crohn’s, just preventive medications.
