Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has filed a legal complaint against the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival, alleging assault by a security guard during Marcello Mio’s premiere. The incident has garnered significant attention, with a video circulating on social media showing Sawa struggling with the security guard.
Incident at the Cannes Red Carpet
Sawa Pontyjska claims she was “brutally” restrained while trying to enter the cinema with a legitimate ticket for Marcello Mio’s premiere. She described the incident, stating, “I was trying to escape from this lock. I went down, and I started to run away on the stairs because it was the way back [out]. She was trying to push me in[side], so nobody can see what she’s doing with me. Then she kicked me out through the back door.” Sawa maintains that she was not doing anything wrong and had a valid ticket.
Struggle Captured on Video
A video posted by Sawa on Instagram shows her at the top of the stairs, apparently being directed to go inside by a female guard. As Sawa resists, the guard puts both arms around her, leading to a brief struggle where Sawa nearly drops to the ground. Other security personnel then intervened, stopping Sawa from going back down the stairs and taking her inside.
Legal Complaint and Allegations
According to a BBC News report, Sawa’s legal complaint states that she was “violently challenged by one of a group of security guards” in front of “thousands of people.” She claims the physical force used caused her “acute pain” and resulted in “psychological trauma.” Additionally, Sawa alleges that her reputation was harmed and is seeking 100,000 euros (£85,000) in damages. She posted pictures of documents accusing the festival of “physical assault and psychological damage” on Wednesday.
Organizers’ Response
Sawa has attempted to contact the organizers to request an apology but has yet to receive a response. This incident is particularly notable as Sawa had previously faced criticism for mishandling singer Kelly Rowland and actors Yoona and Massiel Taveras on the red carpet.
