Vashu Bhagnani Faces Controversy Over Unpaid Dues

Veteran Bollywood producer Vashu Bhagnani, renowned for backing popular films like Coolie No 1 and Hero No.1, has recently come under scrutiny for alleged non-payment of dues amounting to Rs 65 lakh to crew members. The controversy has emerged amidst reports of financial strain on Bhagnani’s production house, Pooja Entertainment, following box office failures of recent films.

Allegations and Financial Strain on Pooja Entertainment

According to recent reports, Vashu Bhagnani owes Rs 65 lakh to crew members who worked on various film projects, including Mission Raniganj, Ganapath, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) President BN Tiwari disclosed that over 250 workers have yet to receive payments totaling Rs 31.78 lakh for their services rendered.

Specifically, director Tinu Suresh Desai, known for Mission Raniganj, has lodged a complaint with the Indian Film & Television Director’s Association (IFTDA), asserting non-payment of Rs 33.13 lakh owed to him by Pooja Entertainment. Desai stated that while he has received Rs 37.03 lakh out of the agreed Rs 40.35 lakh, the remaining amount remains outstanding despite repeated follow-ups.

Delayed Payments and Company Response

Pooja Entertainment has allegedly cited various reasons for delaying payments, including Vashu Bhagnani’s son Jackky Bhagnani’s wedding and the release schedule of films. In response to FWICE’s inquiries and subsequent warnings, the company assured that all pending dues would be settled by the end of July 2024. However, FWICE has expressed skepticism and warned of consequences if payments are not made promptly.

The controversy surrounding Vashu Bhagnani’s financial obligations has sparked concerns within the Bollywood industry, especially among crew members who depend on timely payments for their livelihoods. As the situation unfolds, industry stakeholders and workers await the resolution of these financial disputes, hoping for equitable settlements and adherence to contractual obligations by production houses. He is now facing a lots of backlash and is believed that they might not have big projects later.
