Vijay Sethupathi’s Refusal to Act Opposite Krithi Shetty: Here’s Why

In Buchi Babu Sana’s Telugu film Uppena, Vijay Sethupathi played the role of Krithi Shetty’s father. The film, released in 2021, garnered attention for its storyline and performances.

Refusal to Work Together Again

While promoting his upcoming film Maharaja, Vijay Sethupathi revealed in an interview with Behindwoods that he declined an offer to act opposite Krithi Shetty in another project. The actor cited his previous role as her father in Uppena as the reason behind his decision.

Vijay explained that he couldn’t bring himself to romance Krithi on-screen due to their previous on-screen relationship and the significant age gap between them. He mentioned that during the filming of Uppena, there was a scene that Krithi was nervous about, and he even advised her to consider him as her real father for comfort.

Anukreethy Vas as Alternative

Anukreethy Vas was eventually cast as Vijay Sethupathi’s love interest in the film, DSP. She portrayed the character of Annapoorani, Vascodagama’s romantic partner and later wife.

This isn’t the first time Vijay Sethupathi has addressed his decision not to work opposite Krithi Shetty. In a previous statement in 2023, he expressed a similar sentiment, stating that he couldn’t romantically approach her after playing her father in Uppena.

Upcoming  Projects

Vijay Sethupathi’s next release is Nithilan Swaminathan’s Maharaja, set to hit theatres on June 14. The film also features Anurag Kashyap in a lead role. Additionally, he is part of Vetrimaaran’s Viduthalai 2 and a silent film titled Gandhi Talks. On the other hand, Krithi Shetty will be seen in Sriram Adittya’s Telugu film Manamey alongside Sharwanand, scheduled for release on June 7.
