Wild Wild Punjab Trailer Review

Netflix released the trailer for its new Hindi film ‘Wild Wild Punjab’ on Monday. The trailer reveals the plot and has generated some buzz, but it also hints at a story that might feel redundant and repetitive.

Wild Wild Punjab Trailer

As the title suggests, ‘Wild Wild Punjab’ is set in the state of Punjab. The story revolves around Rajesh Khanna (played by Varun Sharma). He is heartbroken and decides to take revenge on his girlfriend after she leaves him to marry someone else. Unable to cope with the post-breakup trauma. He plans to attend her wedding to embarrass her and vows to declare, “I am over you,” in front of a hundred people.

Manjot Singh’s character, Honey Singh, appears loud and similar to his roles in previous films. Patralekhaa’s character, Radha, known as ‘parjhai ji,’ is portrayed as timid and coy. A woman oblivious to the double-meaning conversations around her. Sunny Singh, as Maan Arora, adds to the ‘jigari yaari’ trope. Reminiscent of his moments in ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety.’

Connections to Previous Films

‘Wild Wild Punjab’ is produced by the makers of the ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ series. And ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ – films that faced criticism for being misogynistic. It will be interesting to see how this film impresses the audience with its desi humor and Punjabi-flavored dialogues.

A key question is whether the makers can tell the story without resorting to stereotypes about Punjabis and young men seeking love. At present, the film appears to focus on four best friends, the women in their lives, and their struggle to protect their male egos.

Release Details and Production Team
