The Netflix comedy Emily in Paris has sparked a diplomatic controversy in Europe. Recently Netflix has confirmed the show’s move to Italy , Emily will be traveling to Rome for the forthcoming fifth season.

However French President Emmanuel Macron is not pleased. He said France will fight to retain Emily in Paris. And the Roman mayor has responded, saying  Emily is doing extremely well in Italy and this is simply not done.

A 2024 study by France’s National Centre for Cinema and Animation reported that Emily in Paris show contributed to the rise of tourism in France. It reported that 38% of tourists to Paris cited the show as a reason for their visit. It is also the most popular French show.

The romantic comedy show follows aspiring marketing executive Emily Cooper, an American from Chicago with a master’s degree in communications, who moves to Paris for a new job opportunity. Emily is tasked with introducing an American perspective and social media presence to an established French marketing agency. Culture colides as she adjusts to life in Paris while balancing her career, new friendships, and active love life.

Lily Collins received appraise for her outstanding performance as Emily Cooper, a 29-year-old who moves from Chicago to Paris for a temporary social media strategy job at Savoir. Netflix renews the show for fifth season due to its worldwide success.

The fourth season premiered in two parts: the first premiered on August 15, 2024, followed by the second on September 12, 2024 and received praise for actor’s performance.

Recently, Ott giant platform Netflix announced that the series was renewed for a fifth season and show is moving to Rome.
